Driving with a Cell Phone |
|
October 26, 2009 ... that's the day when driving while holding a cell phone to your ear becomes illegal in Ontario.
Don't worry though ... you still have 3 months until February 1, 2010 before you will actually get a fine for doing it. If you do get fined, be prepared to pay up to $500.
Statistics: - Drivers are 4x more likely to get into an accident while driving and using a cell phone. Texting is even more dangerous.
- Drivers are still allowed to use a hand held cell phone to dial 911 for emergencies
- Emergency workers such as police, paramedics, and fire fighters are exempt from this ban while on duty.
- The worst offenders of cell phone usage while driving are drivers under the age of 35.
It is worthwhile to note that Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador already have this type of legislation. Soon, Ontario will too.
